Jeff Gross, CEO/President/Founder and Director of PRO-DAY Baseball, has been involved in baseball for the past 25 years on all levels.

He was a former professional baseball scout with the Texas Rangers (1989-94) and Chicago Cubs (1994-96). Now, his scouting player information forms go to all 30 major league clubs from the top prospects that attend PRO-DAY Baseball.

A former Part-Owner/President of the Pine Bluff Locomotives, a Class A Independent team in the Big South League of Professional Baseball. His club won the first-half division championship while he helped several players get back to major league affiliations.

He coached college baseball three years each at the University of Arkansas-Monticello and Pensacola Junior College where both colleges had the most successful three year runs in their baseball history.

Seventeen of his former players that he coached on the collegiate and amateur level went on to become coaches themselves. Ten of them coach on the high school level, four as college coaches and three as professional scouts/coaches.

A former first-baseman, who played semi-professional baseball with the Braves in Pine Bluff (AR) who attended Harding University on a baseball scholarship.

Jeff played on five state championship clubs on the amateur level and coached two teams to a state championship, including a fourth place National finish.

His high school team (Pine Bluff High) was ranked ninth and seventh nationally by the USA Today while capturing back-to-back high school titles in 1983-84 with a 38-4 overall record.

Those two state titles were followed by two more which gave PBHS the longest stretch run in Arkansas history and many considered to be the "Best High School Team" that Arkansas ever produced.

He has worked for two of our nations Presidents. George W. Bush, when he served as partner with the Texas Rangers and former President Bill Clinton in Arkansas.

Since 1989, he has helped 43 players go into professional baseball and seen hundreds and hundreds go on to have great collegiate careers.

 



 

 

 

 

 

 

John Gross, Vice-President of PRO-DAY Baseball, is a former scout with the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs.

He was also a Part-Owner/General Manager of the Pine Bluff Locomotives, a Class A Minor League Team in the Big South League of Professional Baseball. Gross guided the LOCOS to the Championship Series in their innagural season.

A eye for baseball talent, John played a vital part in finding a young pitcher named Matt Whiteside at a workout camp, who the Rangers would later draft in the late rounds. Whiteside worked his way up thru the minor league organizations to become a setup man and later a closer for the great Nolan Ryan in Texas.

John graudated from Harding University with a degree in Sports Management where he was a former shortstop for the Bisons. The former all-state shortstop led Pine Bluff High (AR) to the championship game before Kevin McReynolds, who would later lead the New York Mets to the World Series Championship, belted a game-winning home run to lead Sylvian Hills to the state title, which was played on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bill Earnhart who has worked 40 years as a professional scout works close with the Director of PRO-DAY Baseball throughout the year at many of its' Showcases.

Earnhart plays a key role at many of the Mid-South events during the year along with the "North/South/East/West" and "Best of the Best" National Showcases. He grades players on arm strength, accuracy, hands, footwork, to go along with hitting and pitching.

Over the years, Bill has worked as a scout for the Major League Scouting Bureau, Kansas City Royals, Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers and currently is with the 2001 World Champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

He is also a member of the Southeastern Professional Scouts Hall-of-Fame and has been a past nominee for the National Scout of the Year Award.

Bill was the featured speaker at the PRO-DAY "Best of the Best" Dinner Banquet of Champions in 2007.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preston Gross, President of Web Site Developement and Missouri/Illinois Coodinator for PRO-DAY Baseball.

He is a four-time ALL-SLIAC at Webster University in St.Louis (MO) where he hit .361 for his career. Gross has been in baseball his entire life, the son of former major league scout John Gross.

He received his bachelors degree in business from Webster University in St. Louis where Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi presented the diplomas.

A graduate of North County High School, Preston led NCHS to the Missouri State High School Championship.

A switch-hitting infield/outfielder, Preston led his summer team to back-to-back-to-back Missouri Senior Babe Ruth State Championships and Midwest Plains Regional Titles. His teams have played in the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Stamford, Connecticut (2002),Weimer, Texas (2003) and placed 3rd in Newark, Ohio (2004).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bob Parsons, a former professional player in the Pittsburgh Pirates Organization is the "Southwest Coordinator" for PRO-DAY Baseball.

He plays a very important role at all of the events that PRO-DAY has throughout the year.

A 1978 graduate of David Lipscomb College in Nashville, TN. He was an All-American second baseman and helped lead the school to the 1977 NAIA National Championship. In 2002, Bob was inducted into the Lipscomb Athletic Hall of Fame.

Many years in the business community, Bob has stepped back into the baseball world by working with PRO-DAY Baseball and teaching private lessons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Allen Swindle of Tallahassee (FL) works with PRO-DAY as a pitching/hitting instructor along with his duties as Florida Coordinator.

A left-handed pitching standout at Florida State University went on to play professional baseball with the Cincinnati Reds.

During his nearly five years in the Reds Organization, he accumulated many saves during his stops at Billings, Montana (Rookie Ball), Tampa, Florida (Class A), Waterbury, Connecticut (Class AA) and Indianapolis, Indiana (Class AAA).

Swindle's teammates consisted of: Tom Browning,Tracy Jones, Paul O'Neal, Dave Miley and Kal Daniels to name a few.

For the last 18 years, Allen has been one of the lead pitching/hitting instructors at Mike Martin's Florida State University Baseball Summer Camps.

He has worked with players like: Alex Rodriquez, Dean Palmer, Chipper Jones and Reggie Jefferson.

Allen has coached on the college level at North Florida Junior College and also on the high school level.

David Winningham

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

David Winningham, of Tuscaloosa (AL) is the Alabama Coordinator for PRO-DAY Baseball.

He travels to many of the PRO-DAY events across the country and evalautes talent at these Showcases.

David also works with pitchers and talks to players and families about the requirements to get into different colleges.

Winningham served as the pitching coach and recruiter at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.

He was a two-year letterman at Wallace-Selma JC and also at the University of Montavello.

David brings many talents to PRO-DAY and is well respected throughout baseball.

 

 

 

Danny Martin

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Danny Martin, Director of Stadium Operations at the Orange Beach Sports/Plex and the Home of the PRO-DAY “Best of the Best” Showcase has been around baseball since he can remember.

He is the son of Johnny Martin who played in the St. Louis Cardinals Organization back in the late 1920’s. Danny is also the grandson of John C. Wilkins, who was the original owner of the Mobile Bears that were affiliated at that time with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Since Danny’s arrival in 1994 to the Orange Beach’s Parks and Recreation Staff, he has overseen its’ baseball field improvements go from only two youth fields and one softball field to an remarkable nine baseball/softball fields at the Sports/Plex.

Martin works closely with Preston Pooser, the director of Parks and Recreation in Orange Beach, and the two have a staff that is second to none in having the fields looking magnificent in hosting events at the Complex. They also play a huge part in making the “Best of the Best’ Dinner Banquet a big event each fall.

 

 

 

 

Carlos James, scouts professionally for the Seattle Mariners and also helps out at several of the PRO-DAY events during the year.

James was drafted out of high school by the Oakland Athletics. He turned down a professional contract to attend Seminole Junior College and later the University of Arkansas.

He would later sign a contract with the Pine Bluff Locomotives, A Class Minor League Club in the "Big South League" of professional baseball.

Carlos serves as a hitting coach at the PRO-DAY events.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bubber Birdsong, is the Georgia Coordinator for PRO-DAY Baseball.

He just finished his first-year of coaching professional baseball for the South Georgia Peanuts, under manager Wally Backman, who was the second-baseman on the 1986 World Champion New York Mets.

Birdsong is a regular at the Florida State University Advance Baseball Camps each summer in Tallahassee.

He has worked with many professional baseball players over the years and is very knowledgeable on the game.

At the Showcases, Bubber can be found on the mound throwing BP, players do not need to take, because he is MONEY.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Matt Robinson, is the Hitting/Infield Instructor for PRO-DAY Baseball.

A native of Tallahasee (FL), Robinson had a standout baseball career at Florida State University after transferring from Wallace State Community College while leading them to a state title.

At FSU, Matt led the Semionoles to back-to-back 50-plus win seasons in 1982-83. The 1982 team ran up against Future Hall-of-Famer Roger Clemens and the Texas Longhorns, before falling at the Austin (TX) Regional.

In 1983, Florida State fell to Alabama, who were led by Dave Maggadan. The Crimson Tide then would run up against Clemens and the Longhorns this time around before dropping a 4-3 decision in the National Championship game in Omaha, Nebraska.

After his playing days at FSU, Robinson Coached in the Florida Sunshine State Games where he led his team to the Gold Medal. He also has many years experience as a high school coach.

For the past 20 years, Matt has been the lead instructor at the Florida State University Advance Baseball Camps.

  • One PRO-DAY Instructor handed Ivan Rodriquez the phone when he got called up to the major leagues.
  • Three PRO-DAY Instructors grew up beside and were neighbors to five-time gold glove winner Torii Hunter of the Minnesota Twins.
  • One current PRO-DAY staff member was nominated once for the National Scout Award Honor in Major League Baseball.
  • One current scout was part of a World Series Championship with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • One current PRO-DAY staff member is one of the winningest coaches in Florida Junior College Baseball.
  • One current PRO-DAY staff member was in attendance when Lou Brock passed Ty Cobb for the All-Time Stolen Base Record.
  • Two PRO-DAY Instructors worked with the scout who signed Jim Morris which later turned into the baseball movie "The Rookie".
  • Two PRO-DAY Instructors owned a minor league baseball franchise and one current instructor played on that club.
  • Two current Instructors got beat by Roger Clemens and the Texas Longhorns in the regionals to fall short of earning a trip to Omaha and the College World Series.
  • One current PRO-DAY Instructor played with former American League Batting Champion Paul O'Neill of the New York Yankees.
  • Two PRO-DAY Instructors were associated with the Upper Deck "All-Time Greats/Ole Timers Game" at Arlington Stadium in the 1990's.
  • "All" PRO-DAY Instructors have been associated in professional or collegiate baseball as either a player, coach or scout.
